Thank you for visiting

I'm running to represent you on Canal Winchester's town council. Feel free to take a few minutes on this website to learn why. Email me at james@jamesholter.com.  Follow me on X.com @votejamesholter

About me

You should love where you live, and we do. From the intersection of Waterloo and High Streets, stretched out in all directions, is a treasure of a small town: Canal Winchester, Ohio. Suzie and I built our current home here, in the Westchester community, and we wouldn't have it any other way.

We have a blended family, seven kids in all. It's a mix, with a doctor, a Marine, a union sheet metal worker, a paratrooper, a former National Guardsman and more ... not to mention, a sometimes well-behaved English Bulldog, Trudy. Plus, two perfect grandchildren who have quickly moved to the head of the priority list!

So, not only do we value the importance of home, we know the reasons we need to protect a good one, vigorously so. A community such as Canal Winchester is special, and it's important to us that it remain so for generations to come.

This is why when we heard that a couple incumbents for council weren't running, and with four open seats this year, we decided to do our part and offer to serve.

I want to be clear, I am a big fan of our town council. I appreciate the work they have done to make Canal what it is today. My motivation for running is not radical change, fixing broken policies or reinventing your community. I want to be part of the team making certain that we continue to grow in the right direction.

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

I'm the chief operating officer of a 215,000-membership organization. We're active in amateur and professional sports, lobbying in federal and state governments, event management, historical preservation efforts, publishing and more. In addition, I represent our interests on the continental level as the general secretary of a related organization, as well as on the world level on one of many commissions focusing on specific areas of influence.

My broader background is in communications, covering the commodity and other financial markets in Chicago. I did this for 10 years, ultimately running two magazines, multiple websites, a trade show and two directories, before returning to Ohio in 2005.

That career was built on an education as an Ohio Bobcat, graduating from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism in 1996.

In all of these roles, I have learned the importance of listening, compromise, hard work, research, taking responsibility for tough calls and, maybe most of all, that decisions are made by those who show up. This shapes me both professionally and personally, and it would guide me in my role as a public servant, as well. If your values align with mine, I'm asking you to vote for me on November 4th.

Thank you for visiting!

My wife, Suzie, and our English Bulldog, Trudy.

Daughters will expand your perspective greatly! We don't agree on everything, but we do agree their voices are as important as mine.

My wife introduced me to the Bulldog Life, and while the sacrifice is significant and the demands high, I wouldn't have it any other way.

My grandson is everything. Many Saturdays, you might run into us at breakfast at The Wigwam or riding through the park. Say "hi!"

Our anniversary is New Year's Eve, and we try to spend it somewhere special each year. Aruba comes highly recommended by the Holters!

My father raised me working the swing shift as a union electrician, and my oldest son has continued the tradition, himself a member of Local 24 in Columbus.

This will cost votes in Ohio State country, but I'll say it anyway: Michigan is great to visit in the summer. Mackinac Island is hard to beat.

A big family is the greatest treasure you'll find in this world. I can't thank my son enough for getting the next generation started!

Honoring our soldier after infantry graduation. Today, he’s a member of the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg. We’re proud of our three sons who have served.

Celebrating our daughter's graduation from The Ohio State University's medical school. She is currently at her residency pursuing a specialty as an OB/GYN.
